Butterflies in the Stomach

When I see you, I feel... butterflies in the stomach.

Hello there! It's been a while, innit? This is the problem of Summertime: you have no time for blogging.

Anyway, I promised to devote a post to talk about butterflies. No, not those bright-colored-winged insects. The only interesting thing I know about those is that their tongue is called "proboscis".

I'm talking about butterfly knives, a.k.a. balisongs. Wikipedia says a balisong is "a folding pocket knife with two handles counter-rotating around the tang such that, when closed, the blade is concealed within grooves in the handles". This image may help understanding the description.

A butterfly knife IS actually a knife. It can be considered a weapon in all senses, although its primary use is just amusement. An experienced user can flip it quickly with relatively few danger, which usually astonishes other people.

I didn't know about these devices until a pair of years ago, when I started playing Team Fortress 2. The Spy character uses one (click for more info). Since then, I've fancied butterfly knives.

My first balisong. So pretty.

When I went to Madrid, my friend Bolty had a pair of them, and so I started practising. Then I almost bought one at the train station (See Comeacrossness: Madrid Edition, day 4). Then I actually bought one back in my town (See Comeacrossness: Madrid Edition, day 5).

Since then, I have practised a lot, and recently started to think about buying another one, or two, and start a collection. Well, I did it. Last week I bought another butterfly knife.

Shiny, shiny! O.O

As you can see on the picture above, this one is slightly smaller - actually, I think it's legal in Spain. Besides, it has a golden coat of paint (which would remind someone of the Golden Wrenches), and it seems to be made out of aluminum, which is better than the old one (iron).

In fact, if it wasn't for the material, I would still use the old one. I didn't want to replace it... but high temperatures (and maybe the constant falling to ground ) have broken my beloved first butterfly.

This is how she looks now. :-(

Well, life goes on. She was my first one, and I miss having her dancing beneath my fingers... but more will come on the future. You know what they say: "If you have butterflies in your stomach, invite them into your heart."

Maybe, in a near future, I will record myself showing some skills. Since then, see you!

  1. I'm the first reading this (after Tido of course), I think I deserve an achivement for doing this but that's not the important thing.

I love your new butterfly knife, yes it reminds me to the Golden Wrench I don't have and the one which made me say goodbye to all my treasures... No more flare guns or huntsmans for this cat.

I was trying to find the appropiate words to say to the death knife but I'm sorry I have no idea what to say so I'll just say rest in peace or inside some wooden coffin, I'll miss you too, you won't be able to cut me again.
